Wolf GR364C: charbroiler will not light?
Take the knob all the way round first. Wolf answers a charbroiler that clicks and clicks with a single instruction — verify the knob is set fully at Hi — because off and Hi are the only two places it has to be. Hard round and still nothing, and the spark path is next, which Wolf Repair Denver reads on the visit. Ring (720) 575-1433.
The charbroiler is the one thing on this range that cannot be adjusted, and that is the fact worth holding on to. Every other knob along the fascia sweeps through a spread of settings. This one has two stops: off, and Hi.
Under the bars is an infrared burner firing at a bed of ceramic tiles with the blank-off plate laid across the middle of them. Tiles come up to heat, the grate above comes up to heat, and what cooks the food is what those two are radiating rather than any flame reaching it. Hence the ten minutes before anything goes on, and hence the instruction to keep cookware off it.
For working out what is wrong, two positions are a gift. Nothing here is half-open, partly lit or drifting quietly off its setting, so a charbroiler either does its job or it does not, and there is no argument about which.
What it usually turns out to be
Every figure below is a band, not a quote. The fault is found first, the number is agreed with you second, and nothing is ordered until you have said yes to it.
-
It clicks on and on and never catches
UsuallyTry the simplest thing Wolf publishes before anything else: check the knob has gone fully round to Hi. There are no intermediate settings on this module, and a knob resting short of its stop leaves the igniter asking for a flame nothing has released.
What it costs Nothing, once that check is done
-
It lights, but one half of the grate cooks harder than the other
UsuallyThe blank-off plate supplied with the range is meant to be sitting centred directly on the ceramic tiles, and Wolf asks for it specifically so the heat arrives evenly. It is the piece that ends up in a drawer after the first deep clean.
What it costs Nothing, once that check is done
-
Nothing much happens for the first several minutes
UsuallyThat is the module rather than a fault in it. Wolf's sequence is ventilation on, knob round to Hi, then ten minutes of preheating before food touches the grate. An infrared burner brings the tiles and the bars up first; the cooking follows.
What it costs Nothing — the range is behaving as built
-
It stopped lighting after the grate came out for cleaning
UsuallyReassembly order, and one caution inside it. The frame goes back on the range, the blank-off plate centred on the tiles, the grate last, and Wolf warns against contacting the igniter while you do it. An igniter shifted out of position gives exactly this.

All four burners are fine and only the charbroiler is dead
UsuallyThat is useful rather than bad. A healthy top rules out everything the two halves share and leaves this module's own igniter, its switch and the gas reaching it, which get read in that order and rarely take long.

Still wondering
Should the hood be running when the charbroiler is on?
Wolf starts its operating steps with turning ventilation on, and its clicking checklist goes further by asking for the hood five minutes ahead of the charbroiler. Searing on an open grate throws smoke and grease into the room, and the module was designed on the assumption that extraction is running.
What is the flat plate that came in the box?
The blank-off plate. It lies centred on the ceramic tiles, underneath the grate, and Wolf asks for it to be installed so that cooking comes out even. If nobody has ever fitted yours it is probably still in a drawer with the broiler pan and the paperwork.
Can I stand a pan on the charbroiler grate?
Wolf says not to. Food goes straight onto the bars and cookware stays off. An infrared burner throws its heat upward at whatever is above it, so a pan simply takes the searing that was meant for dinner. Call Wolf Repair Denver on (720) 575-1433 if yours has stopped searing altogether.
