What gets checked on a gas range, and in what order
A gas range gives up its faults in a sequence: what the flame is doing, whether the spark is reaching it, and what the supply is doing behind both. Skip a step and you end up replacing the part you can see instead of the one that failed.

What the flame is doing
Blue right through, with a darker cone standing up inside it and nothing yellow at the tips: that is how Wolf describes a burner that is behaving. Every one gets lit and watched before a part is named, because a yellow crown and a lazy one lead different ways.

Whether the spark is reaching it
One burner ticking is that burner: a damp or crusted electrode, or a cap sitting a hair proud. The whole top ticking together when one knob is turned is the module that fires all of them, and no amount of cleaning will change that.

What the supply is doing behind both
The regulator is built into the range, and Wolf asks for five inches of water column going in with at least seven on the line feeding it. A house running a furnace, a water heater and a range off one undersized run does not always manage it.

Induction top stopped reading my pans on two zones — a pan symbol and nothing else. A coil connector had worked loose behind the glass. He reseated it, then tested every zone with my own pot.

Questions we get asked before the van leaves
Nothing here is a sales answer. If the honest reply is that a repair is not worth it, that is what you will hear on the phone as well.
My Wolf will not hold a simmer. Is that the altitude?
Almost never, and it is worth knowing why before anybody sells you a fix. Wolf states that its natural gas ranges work up to 8,600 feet with no adjustment, and Denver sits a long way under that. What usually turns out to be wrong is that the simmer range is a separate part of the knob travel: you turn down to the stop, then push and keep turning, and the flame drops onto the second tier of ports in the cap.
A burner ticks and ticks on a cold morning, then lights fine at night. What is that?
Moisture. Wolf’s own first step for a burner that will not catch is to dry it, a hair dryer on a low setting being the tool it names, and then to clean the cap and the ring around it. A hairline crack in the ceramic collar of the electrode does the same thing and does not dry out — that one needs the part.
One knob is turned and every burner starts clicking. Is that serious?
It is not dangerous and it is not a burner fault. Wolf lists the spark module alongside the switch and the electrode as the parts behind a top that will not ignite, and a module firing every electrode at once is the signature of the module itself rather than any one burner. It is a single part and a single visit.
The flames are yellow and the pans are going black. What causes that?
Wolf puts four things at the top of the list: humidity indoors, airborne material from building work, a burner that is dirty or not seated properly, and gas of the wrong type or pressure. It also asks whether a second regulator has been fitted in the supply, because this range already has one built in.
What does a visit cost, and what do I get for it?
$89 buys the trip and the whole diagnosis, and it comes off the bill the moment you approve a repair. Parts and the labour to fit them are quoted as one firm figure before anything is opened up, and if the sensible answer is to leave the range alone, you will hear that instead of a quote.
