Wolf GR484DG double griddle heating unevenly?
Before anything else: the double griddle has a separate control for each side, which Wolf states plainly and a great many owners have never noticed. One side cooler than the other is usually two different settings. Both sides cool is a different conversation, and one worth having with Wolf Repair Denver on (720) 575-1433.
This is a cooking choice more than a repair story. Somebody specified four burners and two flat surfaces because they cook for numbers, and after a few years the range has settled into being one appliance for pans and another for everything else.
The fault that brings us out most often on this body is not really a fault. Two independent halves invite two different habits, and after a few years of that the plates genuinely do not behave alike. Ruling it out first costs nothing and explains most of what gets described as uneven heat.
Where it is not that, the independence works for you. Anything that happens on one side and not the other has already told you which burner, which control and which half of the top to open.
Where to look, in order
-
Check both knobs before you judge the plate
Set the two sides to the same temperature deliberately, rather than assuming they were. A plate that has been run at 300 on one half and 400 on the other for a year will have cooked differently on each side for a year, and nothing is wrong with it.
-
Let the lights tell you where it has got to
The light above each knob stays on while that side is climbing and cycles once it is there. Two lights behaving differently is information. Two lights behaving the same way while the food does not is a reason to call somebody.
-
Rule out the seasoning before the hardware
A patchy, sticky surface makes even heat feel uneven, because food sits on the sticky part instead of touching the plate. Clean and re-oil both halves, cook something simple on each, and see whether the complaint survives the wipe.
Past that point it is a tool-and-meter job. Call Wolf Repair Denver on (720) 575-1433 and we will bring the parts that fault usually needs.
What it usually turns out to be
Nothing below carries a figure. Where a row does need us, the fault is found first and the number is agreed with you second, before any part is ordered.
-
One side holds temperature and the other never quite does
UsuallyTwo controls, two burners, two thermostats. With both knobs set to the same number and both lights behaving the same way, a side that still lags is measured on its own; nothing on the other half tells you anything about it.

-
The light above one griddle knob flashes while the other cooks
UsuallyThat side lost its flame and locked itself out, which Wolf answers with the knob off and back on. Because the sides are independent, a lock-out on one and not the other narrows the fault to a single burner.
What it costs Nothing, once that check is done
-
Grease is running forward instead of draining away
UsuallyEach surface drains into a grease collection tray that is meant to be scraped into after cooking and emptied. A tray left full backs up, and the overflow ends up down the front of the range rather than in it.
What it costs Nothing, once that check is done
Still wondering
Where are the two griddle controls on the fascia?
Beside each other, and each one has the griddle icon etched next to its bezel. Wolf uses those icons to say which knob belongs where, which matters after a clean: two identical knobs swapped between two identical positions will have you cooking on the wrong half.
Is a double griddle harder to look after than one?
It is the same job twice. Scrape into the tray after cooking, wipe when the plate has cooled, spread a little oil back over it. What catches people out is doing it thoroughly on the side they use and neglecting the other until it goes rusty and sticky.
Would you fit a charbroiler in place of one side?
That is a question for a Wolf dealer rather than for us, because it is a build question about what the cabinet was made to carry. What Wolf Repair Denver can do is get the two griddles you have working properly, which is usually what the question is really about.
